How to Use RocketLit's Text-to-Speech Feature

RocketLit is dedicated to supporting all learners by making articles accessible through audio options. This guide covers:


👀 What Does Text-to-Speech on RocketLit Look Like?

RocketLit’s Text-to-Speech feature allows students to listen to articles read aloud. By default, the read-aloud player only appears on the 3rd/4th reading level of an article. Students will find the player located in the top-right corner under the heading artwork.


🗣️ How to Enable Text-to-Speech for Students at Any Reading Level

If you want to ensure a student always has access to the Text-to-Speech feature, regardless of their reading level, you can adjust their individual settings by following these steps:

  1. Go to the "Rosters" tab

    • On your teacher dashboard, click the "Rosters" tab.

  2. Find the Correct Roster

    • Scroll to the desired roster and click "Show # Students" to expand the list.

  3. Select the Student

    • Click on the name of the student whose settings you want to change.

  4. Adjust the Listening Setting

    • In the pop-up window, locate the "Listening" section.

    • Click the drop-down menu and select "Available at Any Reading Level".

    • Don’t forget to click "SAVE"!


❌ How To Disable Text-to-Speech?

If you need to disable Text-to-Speech for a student, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the "Rosters" tab

    • On your teacher dashboard, click the "Rosters" tab.

  2. Find the Correct Roster

    • Scroll to the desired roster and click "Show # Students" to expand the list.

  3. Select the Student

    • Click on the name of the student whose settings you want to change.

  4. Adjust the Listening Setting

    • In the pop-up window, locate the "Listening" section.

    • Click the drop-down menu and select "Only Available at Lowest Reading Level".

    • Click SAVE!

This will limit Text-to-Speech to the lowest reading level only.


🛠️ Troubleshooting Text-to-Speech Issues

If the Text-to-Speech feature isn't working or you see an error message such as "An error has occurred, try again", it's likely due to a whitelisting issue.

Whitelisting Solution

Certain domains must be accessible for the Text-to-Speech feature to work. If these domains are blocked by your district or school, you will need to contact your IT department to request they unblock the following sites:

Once these domains are unblocked, the Text-to-Speech feature should function properly for students who have it enabled.
